Far Flung 50!
AT A GLANCE
50 years is long time to do river trips. That’s a lot of steaks, cakes and deli sandwiches, to say the least. It’s a lot of waivers and lost straps named after your friends; countless flat tires, muddy roads, long shuttles and crushed cans. How many times have we miscounted the lifejackets? How many lost clients have called on the phone for directions when they are already 10 minutes late?
It’s also been early mornings, whistling as the stack is loaded and the river awaits – because it’s been a lot of whitewater too. How many flipped boats do you think? How many clean runs? How many bad safety speech jokes?
But there are some things that can be counted: Exactly one tipped over shuttle truck righted by Mexican Vaqueros on horseback. One truck named “Tawanda”, of all things. One “Green Room” that is now blue. And, One heck of an amazing 50 year run.
We hope you’ll join us this August to recount, or help us count, some of the stories and times that have gotten us where we are today.
Itinerary/Plan:
Day 1: We will meet at either Bode’s General Store in Abiquiu, NM at 8am or at the Far Flung office in El Prado at 7AM. We will make a plan for shuttles as the trip comes together. We are planning to use our vehicles, but if people drive themselves or shuttle their own vehicle to use their boat then we will just sort those details as needed.
Trip: Depending on size and what makes sense we will plan to camp at more unused camps and will do camps within walking distance as necessary. If we can do a layover we will, but that will depend on flows.
