Overview

A huge swath of wild high country filled with pristine meadows and adorned with sweeping New Mexico vistas outside of Chama, NM gradually descends to the high desert sandstone cliffs of Georgia O’Keefe country outside of Abiquiu, NM. Well maintained Forest Service roads mixed with single track riding on the Continental Divide Trail make these 2-4 day adventures the cream of the crop for intermediate groups and families looking for an unforgettable experience.

Most trips begin near San Antonio Mountain on the wide-open alpine plains. You will follow well maintained forest service roads up into the high country, watching the landscape change from open sagebrush flats dotted with ancient volcanoes to meadows lined with aspen groves and fir trees. Watch for abundant wildlife throughout this trip: Eagles, antelope, elk, turkey, and black bear abound in this area.

Our 2 and 3 day trips will allow guests to experience New Mexico wilderness at its finest and even visit some rural and historic New Mexico communities, such as Vallecitos, NM. Our 4 and 5 day trips will take riders from the plains around San Antonio Mountain to the wild alpine country and down again into the sandstone lined Chama river valley and the heart of Georgia O’Keefe country.

We plan for an average of around 15 miles/day on these trips – with some days being less and some days being more depending on elevation gain and other factors. Any of these itineraries may be expedited for more experienced riders looking for a van supported bike trip and the daily mileage may be adjust to meet their riding level.

Transport, food, professional guides and any needed camping equipment are included in your trip. Mountain Bikes may be rented for an additional fee. Trips will meet at the Far Flung Adventures Boathouse at 8:00am for packing and final preparation, from which it will be a 1hr drive to the starting point.
