Overview
A true one-day adventure trip, a day on the Razorblades section encompasses off road driving, horse packing, hiking, and Class III/IV whitewater. This run is comparable to the Taos Box section in terms of whitewater, but the remoteness and hike in and out makes it a real-deal outdoor adventure for those looking to get off the beaten path. The Razorblades is a very unique and seldom done section of the Rio Grande that is a fantastic feather in the cap for New Mexico river enthusiasts or just an outgoing group of excited visitors!
Itinerary
We will meet at the Far-Flung Adventures Boathouse at 8 a.m, from there we will shuttle up to our put in location in the northern reaches of the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument. Our day will start with a hike into the canyon near the base of Ute Mountain, a towering extinct volcano. Throughout the day guests can expect exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities, remote wilderness beaches and lunch sites, and fun and challenging class III-IV whitewater. It is highly unlikely that we will see any other people on this section of river.
We will serve a great deli-style riverside lunch mid-trip and you will have the opportunity to relax and take in the wild, alpine-desert views. The day will end at our takeout at Chiflo Trail, which will be a short and steep 1/4 mile hike up out of the gorge. As an added plus to the adventure, the trip will be met by pack animals at the bottom of the takeout trail and gear will be packed up on them. Guests will be expected to carry their personal items and maybe some light group gear if they are able.
