Participants

Well suited for families and first-timers and we welcome paddlers of all ages and abilities, with a minimum age of 6 years old. You should be in normal good health and prepared for the moderate exertion of paddling and possible swimming.

Craft

Canoes and hardshell sit on top kayaks will be the standard for low water trips. Higher flows allowing downstream trips will be done in rafts.

Adult: $185

Child(6-11): $155

Deposit Required, remainder to be charged 24hrs prior to trip.

Cancellation Policy

Reservation cancellation more than 2 weeks before trip date receives a refund minus 10% of trip cost. Less than two weeks before trip date forfeits deposit. A cancellation within 24hrs or a “no-show” on the day of the trip will result in full-payment and forfeit any refund.

Overview

Gear up and get ready to experience the most famous canyon of the Big Bend as a fun and tranquil full-day adventure. This mellow upstream canoe and kayak tour takes you straight into the 1500ft tall mouth of Santa Elena canyon and right into the heart of Chihuahuan Desert Canyon country. This trip is suitable for families, groups, first-timers, and those of all ages and abilities!

Itinerary

This full-day tour meets at 8:30am in Terlingua or 9:30am at the Santa Elena trailhead parking lot. Once we meet, guests will be given all necessary safety and boating equipment and will receive a safety speech covering the river and paddling techniques needed to navigate this mellow and stunning section of the Rio Grande. Your group will paddle your way upstream into the heart of Santa Elena with the aim of making it to lunch at Fern Canyon, a beautiful slot canyon carved in the solid limestone with dripping waterfalls, Tinajas and hanging ferns.

After lunch the group with paddle back down the canyon and make it back to the parking lot around 3:30. Groups can expect to be back in Terlingua by 4:30-5pm.
