About The Float
Chama day stretch is one of northern New Mexico’s most popular family friendly float section. This trip is great for families and groups looking for a scenic wilderness day float in one of the most beautiful and iconic areas in the Southwest. This 8-mile stretch begins beneath a secluded Benedictine monastery and ends just above Abiquiu Reservoir, where this silty desert river rolls to a halt among the rainbow cliffs of this remote four-corners location. Our meeting location for this trip may vary depending on your itinerary. Please contact with any questions. In general, we either meet at 8:00 AM at our office in Taos, NM or at 9am at the Ojo Caliente resort. After meeting we will take a scenic hour-long drive along the multi-hued sandstone cliffs of what we like to call “Georgia O’Keeffe country” to our starting point near the Christ in the Desert Monastery in a wide high-desert valley. Guests can expect fantastic scenery, fun and splashy class II whitewater and a delicious riverside lunch.
About The Soak
Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs Resort and Spa is a quintessential part of the New Mexico experience and one of the most recommended destinations in the state. Opened since 1868 and loaded with history, Ojo Caliente is one of the oldest natural health resorts in the U.S. You can read more Ojo Caliente’s incredible story here. Depending on what time we arrive at the spa guests will be allowed up to an hour and a half to soak. If you would like more time than that, it is recommended that we meet at Ojo Caliente that morning so that you have your vehicle there. There is lodging and a great restaurant at the resort.
