Participants

We welcome active and adventurous riders and rafters of all ages and experience levels. Participants should be prepared for a full day of activity that will consist of a two-hour horseback ride, a 30 min downhill hike, and a 3-4 hour raft ride. If someone in your party would like to make the day a little shorter, they may join in just the first or second half of the day.

Craft

Most people prefer paddle boats or an individual inflatable kayak on this Class II-III section of the Rio Grande.

Reservation cancellation more than 2 weeks before trip date receives a refund minus 10% of trip cost. Less than two weeks before trip date forfeits deposit.

Overview

On this trip we partner up with the old cowhands of Rio Grande Stables for the best full-day trip in the southwest! Horseback ride and then enjoy lunch beside the rim of the Rio Grande Gorge, then after a beautiful hike into the canyon you will float through the pristine canyonscape and Class III rapids of the Middle Box. This trip is a real far-out adventure and a Far Flung exclusive!

Itinerary

Your day will start by meeting at the Far-Flung Boathouse at 8am, where we will drive you to the Rio Grande Stables office for your two-hour guided horseback ride along the rim of the Red River Canyon to its confluence with the Rio Grande Gorge. A beautiful two-hour horseback ride will take you beneath pines and junipers while you traverse along the rim of the Red River canyon to its confluence with the Rio Grande.

Around 11:30 you will meet back up with us at the rim of the gorge for a delicious homemade lunch.  While you enjoy your meal,the guides will pack the rafting equipment onto horses and mules to prepare for the mile long descent from the canyons rim to the river’s edge. Once on the water you will have the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful sections of the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument, explore ancient Native American hunting sites, and keep an eye out for the abundant wildlife beneath the towering ponderosa pines.This trip is a good full day of activity and we will plan to be back at you back at our office and your car around 4pm.
