This popular horseback riding and rafting combination trip is a full day experience made possible by our friends at Cieneguilla Stables (read some of their reviews here). The horseback portion of this trip is design to accommodate any level of rider and to give participants a chance to explore and experience the Picuris Mountains at a comfortable pace. Prior riding experience is in no way necessary! After working up a good cowhand's appetite, we will enjoy a well deserved trailside lunch, including an array of hand-roasted sandwich meats and homemade salads and salsas (see some of our recipes here). After that it will be off to the Rio Grande Visitors Center, where you will meet up with your guides at Far Flung Adventures and head downstream to enjoy the Pilar Racecourse and its wild array of class II and III rapids
This full-day tour begins at 8:00 a.m. each day at the Cieniguilla Stables Headquarters, at mile marker 29 on State Highways 68, 16 miles south of the Taos Plaza, just north of the Pilar Cafe. After a 2 hour horseback ride in the Picuris Mountains we will have lunch and then head down to the Pilar Cafe, where you will meet up with your guides at Far Flung Adventures and head downstream to enjoy the Pilar Racecourse and its wild array of class II and III rapids.
