Sample Itinerary

A popular climbing/rappelling and rafting combination trip made possible by our friends at Mountain Skills Adventures. Get your adrenaline pumping and experience the great outdoors!

The morning will begin by meeting at the Pilar Cafe at 8:30 am. There you will meet your guide and accompany him to the nearby rim of the Rio Grande Gorge for spectacular views and a thrilling set of rappelling areas on the edge of the deep canyon. After working up an appetite rappelling, we will enjoy a well-deserved riverside lunch, including an array of hand-roasted sandwich meats and homemade salads and salsas (see some of our recipes here). After that it will be off to the Rio Grande Visitors Center, where you will meet up with your guides at Far Flung Adventures and head downstream to enjoy the Pilar Racecourse and its wild array of class II and III rapids.

This six hour tour begins at 8:30 a.m. each day at the Pilar Yacht Club and Cafe, at the junction of State Highways 68 and 570, 16 miles south of the Taos Plaza, Mile Marker 28.5. Check in at our kiosk 10 or 15 minutes before departure. You’ll read and sign the waiver form, assuming the normal risks of participation in a guided outdoor activity. We’ll have you park at the BLM designated public parking lot nearby.
