"The Whole Gorge" Whitewater Wild and Scenic Three-Day River Trips

Our Wild River Three-Day begins near Questa, New Mexico, at the Rio Grande Gorge Wild River Recreation Area, and ends south of Taos near the village of Pilar, at the Taos-Rio Arriba county line, and traverses 40 miles of rugged canyons and Class 3-4 rapids.

DATES: April 1 - July 15. Our longest New Mexico river trip is usually available throughout the season,

PARTICIPANTS: We welcome beginning rafters 12 years of age and older. You should be in normal good health and prepared for the moderate exertion of the trail. Guides will do the navigating in oar-powered rafts, or groups of 4-6 may request a paddle raft.

COSTS: $510 Per person plus New Mexico sales tax, with 50% advance deposit required. Group discounts are available for 12+. Add New Mexico sales tax.

SAMPLE ITINERARY: Our first day begins with a one 1/2 mile mule-pack and hike in down a steep, but well-maintained trail at Arsenic Springs. We raft from the foot of Class 6 Little Arsenic Springs rapid through the long, bouldery La Junta Rapid.

On the second day, we cover 15 miles and fifteen named rapids. Beginning at the top of precipitous Powerline Falls, we descend at an average gradient of 55 feet per mile through drops with names like The Rockgarden, Screaming Left Hand Turn, Enema, and then finishing with Sunset where your run is captured by a photographer. Our second night is spent at our campsite among pinon pine and juniper along the river near Orilla Verde Recreation Area.

The final day's trip is twelve miles long, culminating in the early afternoon with a run of Class 3 rapids including Big Rock, The Sleeping Beauty and Souse Hole on the Pilar Racecourse. You’ll rejoin your vehicles between 3-4:00 P.M.

Our Meeting Place And Time: Meet us at 9:00 A.M. at the Far Flung Adventures Boathouse. Head North from Taos on Highway 64 to the stop light.
